I have wandered seeking wonder

Art credit - Beverly Branch, Faith

I have wandered
seeking wonder,
leaving Home,

                    shunning comfort,
roaming into
the Unknown.

Who I’ve been,
the place I’m in,
I haven’t liked;

                    didn’t know
quite where to go,
but I knew why…

Hope is
just a princess
in a fairytale;

                    nobody
is saving me
except myself.

Realizing
only I
was stopping me,

                    I’ve gone on to
rendezvous
with Who I’ll Be…

turned my back
to pasts that
I won’t let define me…

                    spurned the masks
behind which
I’ve been shyly hiding.

Pausing, for
a moment more,
on the cusp,

                    trusting who I
am inside
to be enough,

gazing up,
amazed,
and with an opened mind,

                    recognizing
what’s been mine
all the time,

while I wandered
into wonder,
hazily,

                    taking only
bravery
and faith with me.
