I can tell you’re out there

Art credit - Marc Chagall, Lovers Among Lilacs, 1930, The Met

I can tell you’re out there,
I’ve dreamt the incense in your hair
as I’ve lain half-asleep,
like lilacs drifting in the breeze
each morning half-awake,
I feel you graze across my face
and ache that it were so;
we’ll make it mythic, this I know.
