Today I Choose to be a Verb

Today I choose to be a verb,
and you can say I seem absurd
but action lifts more lives than words,
so I will turn into a verb.

They say a human is a noun,
the smartest monkeys all around,
but seeing all the proof I’ve found
to be a verb is more profound.

To pick a starting verb is hard;
there are so many superstars,
but on a planet clad in scars
the verb forgive is how I’ll start.

And maybe then I’ll sing a song,
and maybe someone sings along
who maybe feels like they belong
because we chose to share a song.

To be a verb can let me mend
or heal a hurt that gets to end;
to lend assistance to a friend
a verb is what I recommend.

A verb can be the perfect word
to still the storm, or cure a hurt,
so I will do the work to turn
compassion to an action verb.

Since verbing can be wearying
without a chance at sweet relief,
the two nouns I will be will be
Renewal and Recovery.

I choose to be a verb today,
not just a person in a place;
the world deserves an act of grace
so I prefer a verb today.

I hope this verby verse of mine
imaginates a bridge of rhyme
across the chasm that divides
our nouny tribe of humankind…

the verse when I became a verb,
and even though it seemed absurd
I lifted lives, or so I’ve heard,
the day I turned into a verb.
